We had the pleasure of driving star Formula E driver Nelson Piquet Jr ahead of the forthcoming VISA London ePRIX.
At the time excitement was building ahead of the event which, was staged in the Capital on the 27th and 28th June 2015.
Nelson, who drove for Team China in the FIA Formula E championship, was looking forward to a competitive race at the Battersea Park circuit, a race which he was looking to win and clinch the first ever championship title.
Going into the race Nelson was topping the points table and in pole position to win this years title, and with two races taking place in London over the weekend there were a maximum of 60 points up for grabs.
The audience for Formula E (the all electric version of Formula 1 racing) has been steadily growing over the years and is now broadcast in the UK by ITV. The event attracted crowds of over 60,000 people for the London ePRIX.
The sport has pushed technological boundaries and showcased what electric vehicles can achieve. The event in London was the first to feature cars whos batteries have been charged by solar power marking a new breakthrough. A “mini solar farm” was constructed in the pit lanes to charge the cars including all support vehicles at the circuit.
Nelson ended up winning the Championship finishing top of the points table in two thrilling races, which were a great advertisement for the competition. From all at eConnect we would like to congratulate Nelson on his championship title.
