eConnect cars was invited to attend the GLA’s Go Ultra Low London business engagement event at City Hall on Thursday, September 3rd 2015. The event was designed to engage with specific businesses to feed into London’s bid for OLEV’s Go Ultra Low City Scheme. Those at the event represented a broad spectrum of London stakeholders including representatives from transport hubs such as Heathrow airport to global logistics companies such as TNT.
The event offered a unique chance to hear how leading businesses are embracing ultra low emission vehicle technology and learn about and help shape London’s emerging bid to the Office of Low Emission Vehicles’ £35m Go Ultra Low City Scheme. Speakers at the event included Elliot Treharne, Air Quality Manager at the Mayor of London’s Office, Andrew Lowery, City Logistics and Public Affairs Manager at TNT as well as Gabor Doroghazi, Director at Fruit4London.

What is OLEV/ULEV?
OLEV, short for the Office for Low Emission Vehicles, is a team working across government to support the early market for ultra-low emission vehicles (ULEV). Currently, a dozen cities are bidding for a share of a £35 million fund to become centres of excellence for low emission vehicles. The Go Ultra Low city scheme will reward cities that demonstrate the most potential to become internationally outstanding examples for the adoption of ultra-low emission vehicles (ULEVs) in a local area. The 12 cities and authorities shortlisted for the £35 million Go Ultra Low city scheme are:
- Greater London Authority
- West Yorkshire Combined Authority
- North East Combined Authority
- City of York Council
- West of England
- Dundee City Council
- Sheffield City Council
- Milton Keynes Council
- the Department for Regional Development of Northern Ireland
- Oxford City Council
- Nottingham City Council
- Leicester City Council.
These shortlisted cities will now be invited to fully develop their proposals over the summer and the winners (expected to be two to four cities) will be announced in the autumn.
